Tiny rocks by the door
If you come to my home and take off your shoes you might very well step onto some tiny rocks by the door. The possibility of that is high. Doesn't matter if I vacuumed beforehand or not. The tiny rocks are grit. The pebbled stones that are scattered with big shovels onto the path to my appartement building, when there is a risk of slipping in winter. When the ice melts, the grit doesn't. So it is carried inside all year around, with every errand, every pair of feet leaving and re-entering, and then stays by the door where I take of my shoes.
The reason you will step on it, is a different one though.
There is an outlet around the corner of my really long hallway. If I plug my vacuum cleaner into that specific outlet I can vacuum the whole flat. Well, almost the whole flat. To vacuum the last 10 centimeters in front of the entrance door I would either need much more give in the cord or it would require me to to plug and replug into a different outlet.
Lazy, I know. A bad trait of mine you will be reminded of every time you will take off your shoes in my hallway.
If it might be any consolation to you: I step on the tiny rocks myself. Every time I leave they go with me, make me stop to shake them out and bother the hell out of me.
Not enough to replug the vacuum though.
